Facts
A Tennessee state statute gave priority to local creditors in an insolvency proceeding. Individual and corporate noncitizen creditors challenged the statute after Tennessee creditors were given priority over them in an insolvency proceeding involving the distribution of assets of an insolvent foreign corporation that had done business in and acquired property in Tennessee. The foreign creditors alleged that the Tennessee statute violated the Privileges and Immunities Clause and the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.
