Carparts Distribution Center v. Automotive Wholesalers Association of New England
United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit
37 F.3d 12 (1994)

- Written by Darius Dehghan, JD
Facts
Ronald Senter (plaintiff) was suffering from AIDS. Senter was enrolled in a medical-reimbursement plan offered by the Automotive Wholesalers Association of New England, Inc. (association) (defendant). The association instituted a lifetime cap on health benefits for individuals with AIDS. Subsequently, Senter brought suit, contending that the association violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The district court dismissed the case. Specifically, because the association did not have an actual physical structure that people could enter, the district court determined that it was not a public accommodation under the ADA. Senter appealed.
