Das v. Das
Court of Special Appeals of Maryland
754 A.2d 441 (2000)
- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
Vincent Das (defendant) and Anuradha Das (plaintiff) were married. Anuradha obtained a domestic-violence protective order against Vincent, after which the Dases separated. Anuradha filed a petition for divorce based on cruelty and excessively vicious conduct. Anuradha testified to a history of violence against her by Vincent, including hitting, pinching, and hair-pulling. Anuradha stated that Vincent often threatened her, both generally and regarding what Anuradha planned to do when the protective order expired. Anuradha testified that she had physical health problems, such as cardiac arrhythmia, as a result of Vincent’s behavior. The trial court granted Anuradha’s petition. Vincent appealed, arguing that Anuradha had not provided sufficient details of the violence to justify a divorce based on cruelty and excessively vicious conduct.
