Facts
During the marriage between Maria Frausto (plaintiff) and Manuel Frausto (defendant), Manuel attended medical school and obtained a license to practice medicine. Maria later filed for divorce. The trial court’s decree included an award to Maria in the amount of $20,000, payable by Manuel in monthly installments of $200, as reimbursement to Maria for Manuel’s education. Manuel appealed this aspect of the divorce decree. The Texas Court of Civil Appeals granted certiorari.
