Facts
Hawthorne (defendant) was charged by the state of Florida (plaintiff) with killing her husband. After being convicted, she appealed the trial court’s refusal to allow the testimony of an expert on the issue of battered-woman syndrome as it applied to Hawthorne’s claim of self-defense.
