In re Marriage of George
Kansas Court of Appeals
26 Kan. App. 2d 336, 988 P.2d 251 (1999)
- Written by Mary Katherine Cunningham, JD
Facts
In 1996, Robert George (plaintiff) and Betty George (defendant) divorced; the divorce decree placed A.D.G., the couple’s minor daughter, in the custody of Betty George. The court ordered Robert George to pay child support for A.D.G. A.D.G. later quit school at age 16, became pregnant, and gave birth to a child. Robert George filed a motion to terminate his child-support obligation, arguing that A.D.G. emancipated herself when she quit school and gave birth to her own child. The trial court terminated Robert George’s child-support obligation and found A.D.G. had emancipated herself so that support was no longer appropriate. Betty George appealed.
