In re Marriage of Turk
Illinois Supreme Court
12 N.E.3d 40 (2014)
- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
Iris Turk (plaintiff) filed a petition for dissolution of her marriage with Steven Turk (defendant). The circuit court awarded Steven sole custody of the couple’s two children and awarded Iris significant visitation rights. The circuit court required Steven to pay Iris $600 per month in child support. Steven’s annual income was approximately $150,000 and Iris’s was $10,000. Steven appealed, arguing that the court cannot order him to pay child support because he was chosen as the custodial parent. The appellate court affirmed. The Illinois Supreme Court granted Steven’s petition for leave to appeal.
