479 F.3d 936 (2007)
- Written by Kelsey Libby, JD
Facts
Brandi Standridge and Kenya Phillips (plaintiffs) were employed by Union Pacific Railroad Company (Union Pacific) (defendant). As such, Standridge and Phillips received healthcare benefits under plans sponsored by Union Pacific. Standridge and Phillips both used prescription contraception, which the healthcare plans did not cover. Standridge and Phillips sued Union Pacific for sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), as amended by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 (PDA). The district court entered judgment in favor of Standridge and Phillips, and Union Pacific appealed.
