Facts
An American couple (plaintiffs) sought to adopt a baby born in Chile. Financial expenditures made by the couple included $3,000 to a Chilean attorney, more than $1,000 to cover the airfare and passport of a Chilean woman who transported the baby to the United States, and foreign court fees.
