Facts
Oscar Knight (defendant) and Reba Volkart-Knight (plaintiff) lived together without obtaining a marriage license. During the time Reba lived with Oscar, Reba filed tax returns that listed her marital status as single. Additionally, Reba listed herself as single when signing as a coborrower with Oscar on a loan. Reba eventually filed for divorce. The trial court found that a common-law marriage existed between Oscar and Reba. Oscar appealed.
