Robinson v. Robinson
Virginia Court of Appeals
621 S.E.2d 147 (2005)
- Written by Meredith Hamilton Alley, JD
Facts
George Robinson (defendant) and Elisa Robinson (plaintiff) were married and did not work. Instead, George and Elisa lived off the income from George’s trust account, which they deposited into joint checking and joint savings accounts. Elisa paid the bills from the joint checking account, and she encouraged George to save some money in the joint savings account. A short time after they married, George and Elisa separated and filed for divorce. At the time of trial, the joint savings account held about $244,000 and the joint checking account held about $69,000. The trial court classified both accounts as marital property. George appealed.
