Rukminamma Madireddy v. Subba Reddy Madireddy
New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division
66 A.D.3d 647 (2009)

- Written by Alex Ruskell, JD
Facts
Rukminamma Madireddy (plaintiff) sued Subba Reddy Madireddy (defendant) in an action for divorce. The parties were allegedly married in a Hindu ceremony in India in 1952. The trial court ruled that the 1952 marriage was a valid Hindu ceremony. The defendant appealed, arguing that the determination of the religious validity of the 1952 marriage improperly involved the court in a religious matter.
