Facts
Siragusa (plaintiff), a nurse’s aide, was struck by the metal hook of a door that was pushed open from the other side by a patient, causing injury to Siragusa. Siragusa brought a negligence action against her employer, Swedish Hospital (defendant). Swedish Hospital raised the defenses of contributory negligence and assumption of risk. The trial court found that Siragusa had assumed the risk. The action was dismissed. Siragusa appealed. The Washington Supreme Court granted certiorari.
