Facts
While traveling with her husband, Lady Eldon purchased what she believed to be an expensive quantity of French Lace without her husband knowing about the purchase. She then hid the lace in the coach that they were traveling in with the intent of smuggling it across the border into England without paying a duty. However, a customs officer found the lace, which turned out not to be French in origin and, rather, of little value and manufactured in England. Lady Eldon was charged with the crime of attempt.
