Facts
A social worker in a village in Rajasthan (defendant) was the victim of a gang rape. The incident revealed the dangers women in the workplace faced. In the absence of any law regarding sexual harassment in the workplace, Vishaka and others (plaintiffs), a group of social activists and nongovernmental organizations, brought the incident to the attention of the supreme court, seeking safeguards for working women.
