Watson v. Rheinderknecht
Minnesota Supreme Court
82 Minn. 235, 84 N.W. 798 (1901)
- Written by Eric Miller, JD
Facts
Watson (plaintiff), a 60-year-old man, was in poor physical condition, due in part to an old war injury. Rheinderknecht (defendant), a much more youthful man, was alleged to have committed an assault and battery upon Watson. Watson brought suit to recover damages. Counsel for Watson attempted to introduce evidence of Watson’s physical condition prior to the incident and of the extent to which Watson’s condition was adversely affected by the incident. However, this evidence was deemed inadmissible. The court found in favor of Rheinderknecht. Watson appealed. The Minnesota Supreme Court granted certiorari.
