Nelson v. Nelson
Texas Court of Appeals
193 S.W.3d 624 (2006)
- Written by Whitney Kamerzel , JD
Facts
Kenneth Nelson (plaintiff) married Bessie Nelson (defendant). Before the marriage, Kenneth purchased five acres of land from his parents. Bessie sold the house she owned for $17,500. Bessie and Kenneth used $16,616.51 of the proceeds from the sale of Bessie’s property to build a home on Kenneth’s five acres of land. After the parties were married, and upon the parties’ request for a divorce, the trial court awarded Bessie economic reimbursement of the $16,616.51 that was used to build the new house. Kenneth appealed, arguing that the trial court abused its discretion because economic reimbursement was not permitted for prenuptial expenditures.
