Williams v. Williams
Oklahoma Supreme Court
543 P.2d 1401 (1975)
- Written by Meredith Hamilton Alley, JD
Facts
Boyce Williams (plaintiff) sought a divorce from Celestia Williams (defendant) on the grounds of incompatibility. Celestia argued that the district court did not have the authority to grant a divorce because granting the divorce would contravene the Williamses’ marriage vows and the authority of god. Celestia argued that because she and Boyce believed that adultery was the only biblical grounds for divorce and neither had committed adultery, the court should hold the Williamses to their vows and deny the divorce petition.
