Civil contempt was covered in a different lesson. This lesson addresses criminal contempt. In some cases, a court will find someone in contempt and impose a sanction, but it’s unclear whether the court intended to find the contemnor in civil contempt or criminal contempt. Sometimes a court intended both. Because criminal contempt is more serious, it’s always important to distinguish between the two types.
