Welcome to Energy Law

This course examines how natural sources of energy, public electric utilities, wholesale electric markets, and renewable sources of energy are regulated in the broad field of energy law.

Transcript

Welcome to Energy Law! This electrifying course features 33 lessons divided into 7 chapters.

Chapter one provides the foundation for this course by looking at how electric utilities are regulated and the basics of energy generation, transmission, and distribution.

Chapter two digs deep into the laws that regulate the coal industry, including property rights in coal, coal-fired power plant emissions, and clean coal technology.

Chapter three looks at the oil and natural gas industry, from property rights in oil and gas to drilling operations and hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. This chapter also examines regulations that are in place to minimize the risks associated with transporting oil and gas.

Chapter four covers all aspects of nuclear energy. In this chapter, you’ll learn about the history of nuclear energy and the uranium mining process, and you’ll see how government agencies are prepared to respond to accidents at nuclear power plants.

Chapter five will breeze through the basics of wind energy and highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages associated with this renewable energy source.

Chapter six highlights some of the benefits and drawbacks of harnessing solar and hydroelectric energy and examines how these unique renewable-energy facilities are regulated.

Chapter seven rounds out this course by providing an overview of various other energy resources and energy issues, including waste-to-energy facilities and electric vehicles.

After taking this course, you’ll be charged up and ready to ace your final exam. Let’s get started!
