Fee disputes are some of the most common complaints that clients have about their lawyers. Luckily, Model Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5 gives detailed guidance for how lawyers can set their rates appropriately. In this clip we will analyze the eight factors listed in the Model Rules that can make a fee “reasonable.” We will also discuss when lawyers are required to reduce their fee agreements to writing, and we will review the special requirements for contingent fees and fee division.
