For an item of evidence, the journey to court can be lengthy and arduous. Whether in the form of an exhibit or a witness giving testimony, evidence must leap over a number of hurdles set up by evidence law before it can be admissible. One of these hurdles is relevance: an item of evidence must be related to the case at hand in order to be admitted into court.
