Cal. Civ. Proc. Code § 877(a)

Definition

A provision of the California Code of Civil Procedure specifying that, in a case involving joint tortfeasors, a pretrial settlement made in good faith between the plaintiff and one or more defendants shall operate to reduce the claims against nonsettling defendants in the amount stipulated in the settlement or paid in consideration therefor, whichever is greater.
