Definition

1. In property, the claim that someone in adverse possession of land intends to claim the land as her own. 2. In taxation, the requirement that a taxpayer report all income for the year, even if some of it might have to be repaid in a later year. 3. In criminal law, a defense to a charge of robbery or theft whereby a defendant claims that he had a justifiable right to take specific property from another individual, even by force or by mistake.
