Measuring Life

Definition

Also known as a life in being, the life used to test whether property or trust distributions will vest in compliance with the durational restrictions of the rule against perpetuities. A measuring life is typically restricted to the grantor, the grantee, or anyone related to persons named in the trust/deed instrument or otherwise relevant to the transfer of the trust/property interest.
