Summary Plan Description (SPD)

Definition

A document that employers must provide to employees who participate in Employee Retirement Income Security Act-covered retirement or health plans that tells participants how a plan operates and includes information on when an employee can begin to participate, how to file a claim for benefits, and when benefits become vested.
