Facts
Haddad (plaintiff) filed a lawsuit against his employer, Lockheed California Corporation (Lockheed) (defendant), alleging discrimination on the basis of national origin and age. Haddad worked for Lockheed for approximately 10 years until his resignation in 1979. Haddad alleged that his resignation was a constructive discharge due to Lockheed’s discrimination. At trial, the trial court improperly allowed testimony from Haddad’s ex-wife over Haddad’s objection that Haddad had planned to resign from his job at Lockheed and seek an alternative career two years prior to his actual resignation. Other witnesses testified that Haddad was dissatisfied at Lockheed. Haddad’s own testimony supported that he was exploring alternative career paths as early as 1977. The trial court entered a judgment in favor of Lockheed on the national-origin-discrimination claim, and a jury found in favor of Lockheed on the age-discrimination claim. Haddad appealed.
