Facts
The Newbridge Cutlery Company (the company) (plaintiff) was a company based in Newbridge, Ireland, that designed, manufactured, and sold home goods under the mark “Newbridge Home.” The company sought registration for the mark in the United States. The trademark examiner refused to register the mark on the grounds that it failed under the Lanham Act’s prohibition against registration of marks that are primarily geographically descriptive. The Trademark Trial and Appeals Board (the board) affirmed the refusal. The company appealed.
