One standard said that metabolic disorders, including diabetes, would be disqualifying if they threatened an employee’s ability to safely do her job. A lifeguard at the center had type 1 diabetes, which made her dependent on periodic insulin injections. The center was unaware of the lifeguard’s condition when it hired her.
