A buyer worked at an office-supply company, where he reported to the office manager. The buyer was Black and the manager was a White woman. Over several months, the manager made a series of racist comments to the buyer and left racist literature on his desk. When the buyer applied for a promotion, the manager passed him over in favor of a much less qualified White employee.
