I. Overview of Class Actions

Class actions are cases in which one or more representative parties bring claims on behalf of all members of a larger group, called a class.

A class action begins as a single- or multi-plaintiff case brought by the class representatives. Before the case can proceed as a class action, the court must approve, or certify, the case for class treatment. Otherwise,...
