This lesson will address the procedures governing admission into the United States, both from abroad and from within the United States (including adjustment of status).


In addition to a large body of substantive law governing the admission and removal of noncitizens, there are many rules governing immigration procedures for admission and removal. The distinction between immigration law and procedure is analogous to the distinction between substantive and procedural law in the criminal and civil contexts.
