This lesson will discuss in abstentia removal hearings, “administrative” and “expedited” removal hearings, and the issue of indefinite detention of noncitizens who cannot be removed to another country.

I. Limited Discovery in Removal Hearings
If a noncitizen, called a respondent in a removal hearing, wishes to have a merits hearing, then the parties must produce copies of the evidence that they intend to offer in immigration court within 15 days of the hearing.
