Unlike immigrant visas, nonimmigrant visas have limited durations and either don’t permit visa holders to work within the United States or permit only limited work or income production. There are many more nonimmigrant visas issued per year than immigrant visas. In recent years, around eight to 10 million nonimmigrant visas have been issued compared to around one million immigrant visas.
