There are both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas that are based on immigrants’ intended employment in the United States. Nonimmigrant employment-based visas are for short-term workers and will be discussed in another lesson.

I. Employment-Based (EB) Immigrant Visas

Employment-based, or EB, immigrant visas permit noncitizens to come to the United States to live and work on an indefinite basis. Most noncitizens must have a preexisting job offer from a United States employer to receive an EB visa....
