This is one of three lessons concerning asylum and related issues.
Asylees and refugees are noncitizens granted admission into the United States because they proved that they have a genuine fear of persecution in their home countries based on specific grounds, such as political opinion or persecution considered to be a human-rights violation. Both asylees and refugees are given asylum, a form of legal status that differs from immigrant and nonimmigrant statuses.
